1. ESTABLISHMENT
Research, Discover, and Define Organizational Vision and Mission
Establishment is the foundational phase of organizational development. During this stage, the organization seeks to clearly identify its purpose, values, goals, and long-term aspirations. Through research, community engagement, and strategic planning, the organization discovers the needs it is uniquely positioned to address and defines how it will create meaningful impact.
This priority involves gathering information from stakeholders, analyzing community needs, reviewing best practices, and identifying opportunities for growth and service. The insights gained through this process help shape a clear vision that describes the desired future and a mission that outlines the organization's purpose and commitment.
A strong establishment phase ensures that all future activities, programs, and decisions are aligned with a common direction and guided by shared values.
Key Objectives:
2. EXPOSE
Inform, Invite, and Promote the Organizational Purpose and Mission
Exposure focuses on creating awareness and understanding of the organization's mission, programs, and impact. Once the organization has established its identity and purpose, it must effectively communicate its message to the community, supporters, partners, and potential beneficiaries.
This priority involves sharing the organization's story through marketing, outreach, public relations, social media, community events, and personal interactions. Exposure is not simply about visibility; it is about building trust, inspiring interest, and inviting others to participate in the mission.
By consistently communicating its purpose and achievements, the organization strengthens its reputation and expands its network of supporters and collaborators.
Key Objectives:
3. ENDORSE
Connect, Follow Up, and Document Public Perceptions
Endorsement focuses on building credibility, strengthening relationships, and gathering feedback from stakeholders. It is essential for organizations to understand how they are perceived by the communities they serve and the supporters who contribute to their success.
This priority includes maintaining communication with stakeholders, conducting evaluations, collecting testimonials, and documenting public feedback. By listening to community voices and measuring organizational effectiveness, leaders can identify strengths, address concerns, and continuously improve services and programs.
Positive endorsements from supporters, beneficiaries, and community leaders help establish trust and encourage broader participation and investment in the organization's mission.
Key Objectives:
4. ENGAGE
Recognize, Embrace, and Strengthen Friends and Supporters
Engagement focuses on cultivating meaningful and lasting relationships with those who support the organization's mission. This includes volunteers, donors, community partners, alumni, families, and other stakeholders who contribute their time, talents, resources, and expertise.
An engaged network of supporters creates a strong foundation for organizational success. By recognizing contributions, celebrating achievements, and providing opportunities for involvement, the organization fosters a culture of belonging, collaboration, and shared ownership.
Effective engagement transforms supporters into advocates who actively promote the mission and help expand the organization's reach and impact.
Key Objectives:
5. EARN
Involve, Contribute, and Generate Organizational Capital
Earning focuses on securing the financial, human, and material resources necessary to sustain and expand organizational operations. Organizational capital includes funding, volunteer support, partnerships, expertise, facilities, and other assets that contribute to long-term success.
This priority encourages active participation from stakeholders through fundraising, sponsorships, grants, donations, membership programs, and revenue-generating initiatives. Earning is not solely about raising money; it is about creating sustainable resources that enable the organization to fulfill its mission and serve future generations.
By diversifying resources and promoting shared responsibility, the organization strengthens its capacity to achieve its goals and maximize its impact.
Key Objectives:
Conclusion
Together, these five strategic priorities—Establishment, Expose, Endorse, Engage, and Earn—create a comprehensive framework for organizational growth and sustainability. They guide the organization from defining its purpose and building awareness to strengthening relationships, securing support, and generating the resources needed to achieve its mission and vision. By successfully implementing these priorities, the organization can create a lasting impact and empower communities for generations to come.
